Carolyn Water's and I have recently returned from Ashe Co., NC.  Carolyn came back with a wealth of photos.  I have some - but not nearly what she has brought back.  I believe that these will definitely be of interest to everyone.  I thought I would include some scenic photos that I took on my last trip because they might be of interest to those who have never had the opportunity to visit.

NEW - The first photo is of Linwood Lake...you can see that the colors were absolutely fantastic.  This was taken in 2001.  The leaves had not changed on this past trip (2003.)  The photo on the right was taken at the Yadkin Valley Overlook.  This is essentially the area that Daniel Boone followed when blazing the road to KY that so many Pennington's traveled.
NEW -The photo on the left is the seal within the new Ashe Co., NC Courthouse with a photo of the new Courthouse on the right.
NEW -Carolyn Waters took this photo of the old Ashe Co., NC courthouse in Jefferson which is currently undergoing renovations.
NEW -Here are two views of Jefferson and West Jefferson.  This is taken up near the Blue Ridge Parkway near Ashe Co., NC>
NEW -Elijah "Coon" Pennington and family were buried for the most part at the Elijah Shepherd Cemetery.  Carolyn brought back some wonderful pictures of the area.  The photo on the left is the cemetery itself and the other photo is the path to the cemetery.  Here is Carolyn's explanation "This is the way to the cemetery..... behind the little white house, across the creek, through the cow pasture, and up and up and up the hill, through the old gate."
NEW -The photo on the left is most likely Elijah Amons "Coon" Pennington.  He was b.  4 Aug 1868 and d. 7 Apr 1936.  Elijah was the son of Elijah Pennington and Mary Osborne, and grandson of Levi Pennington and Elizabeth Henson.  His wife was Polly Jane Osborne b. 14 Jul 1872 and d. 14 Dec 1947.  I do not have any info on her parents.
NEW -Isaac Pennington was also a son of Elijah Pennington and Mary Osborne and grandson of Levi Pennington & Elizabeth Henson.  He was b. 12 May 1862 and d. 12 Aug 1936.  His wife is Martitia Osborne b. 6 Oct 1869 and d. 4 Mar 1943.  I do not have any further info on her parents.
NEW -Roby Pennington was also a son Elijah Amons "Coon" Pennington and Polly Osborne, grandson of Elijah Pennington and Mary Osborne and great-grandson of Levi Pennington & Elizabeth Henson.  He was b. 31 Aug 1890 and d. 14 Jun 1955 and was m. to Bertha E. Graybeal b. 18 Oct 1894 and d. 21 Aug 1977.  She was the daughter of Joseph Graybeal and Isabel Allen.
NEW -This is Elijah and Polly's Church.  It is called the Little Laurel United Methodist Church. Carolyn was told that Elijah or Isaac donated the land that the original church was on.  It was torn down and rebuilt just down the road.  This is the third actual church building.  It was built in 1905.  Inside is a pew that says donated by or dedicated to Elijah Coon according to Carolyn's source..  The church is on the corner of Graybeal Hollow and Little Laurel Road. It is called the Little Laurel United Methodist Church. It is right down the road from the Pennington Branch Road off of Little Laurel which is where Elijah Sr., Elijah Jr., and Isaac lived. The cemetery is .5 miles west off to the right and up the hill from Pennington Branch Road.
NEW -This is the stained glass window dedicated to Elijah and Polly Pennington.  It is on the left of the entryway to the church.  It has a lot of stained glass windows. Carolyn provided the pictures.
NEW -Elijah "Coon" Pennington 1868-1936 and Polly's old house. Carolyn's sources said that it used to be painted yellow and had a big front porch all the way across the front.
