During my research on the Group 7 Penningtons or the descendants of Micajah Pennington and Rachel Jones, I've spent a lot of time researching other Penningtons in Ashe Co., NC. I had to have some way of identifying who was who and which Pennington branch they "branched" from. DNA research has proven that there is link between these two families, just what the link is is still up in the air. In fact, there is a great deal that is somewhat mysterious about Samuel Pennington. He was thought to be a bound boy from England who ended up in Ashe Co., NC. No one knew who he could possibly be linked to. Nowadays, we know that he is connected in the larger picture of the Ashe Co., NC Penningtons. It is also a mystery as to where he went after he left Ashe Co., NC. His wife died in 1846 and he supposedly went to TN and started a new family. Yet, his children stayed in Ashe Co., NC and the surrounding area. I am only including two generations here. Generation No. 1

1. SAMUEL¹ PENNINGTON was born Abt. 1795 in Albamarie Co., VA, and died 1862 in TN. He married ELIZABETH ANDERSON, daughter of WILLIAM ANDERSON and CATHERINE WALLING. She was born Abt. 1802 in Grayson Co., VA, and died 1846 in Grayson Co., VA.

Notes for SAMUEL PENNINGTON:

Samuel Pennington died in 1862. He was born in Albemarie Co., V A. Family information says that Samuel Pennington came from England with two brothers. They were spoken of as "bound boys". They were bound to work for the family who befriended them. Samuel first settled in Tennessee, later moving to North Carolina. After the death of Samuel's first wife, he went back to Tennessee and remarried and the family in North Carolina lost all track of him. Lineage of Samuel Pennington is describe d in: Pennington Pedigrees 1-1, pg 70, Pennington Pedigrees 2-2, pg 31 , Pennington Pedigrees 2-2, pg 32, Pennington Pedigrees 3-2, pg 44, and P ennington Pedigrees 10-1, pg 40. In the 1880 census of Helton Twp., Ashe County, NC, two of Samuel's sons, Stephen and C. Harvey, and both say that their father was born in VA. From JFMF - PRA
